The dataset contains records of the Great bustard (Otis tarda) collected in the area of the Secundary Irreigation Network of the Alqueva Dam, block D (irrigation blocks of Alvarrão, Brinches, Brinches-Enxoé, Caliços-Machado, Caliços-Moura, Orada-Amoreira, Pias and Serpa) and a control area, performed within the General Bird Monitoring Plan of the area, promoted by EDIA, S.A. Data were collected in the spring/winter of 2021/2022. An ad-hoc number of road transects was performed to detect the target species (in the surrounding fields) using the 550 km road net of the study area. A total of 52 contacts from the Great Bustard was obtained.

Abstract
The non-passerine type specimens in Naturalis Biodiversity Center, Leiden are listed as an update to Van den Hoek Ostende et al. (1997) ‘Type-specimens of birds in the National Museum of Natural History, Leiden, Part 1. Non-Passerines’ and Roselaar and Prins (2000) ‘List of type specimens of birds in the Zoological Museum of the University of Amsterdam (ZMA), including taxa described by ZMA staff but without types in the ZMA’. All new names published by Temminck and Schlegel are listed, even When types are not in Naturalis but in other collections. We have added 380 new names and deleted 13 names originally listed in Van den Hoek Ostende et al. (1997).

Abstract. Thirty-four species of the genus Yponomeuta Latreille, 1796 from China are reviewed, with diagnostic characters given to each species. Five species among them are described as new to science, including Y. changbaishana Li sp. nov., Y. furvimaculata Li sp. nov., Y. heterochroma Li sp. nov., Y. quinquepunctata Li sp. nov. and Y. similicinefacta Li sp. nov. Nine species are newly recorded for the Chinese fauna. The female of Y. osakae Moriuti, 1977 is described for the first time. Images of adults and illustrations of available genitalia of all the species treated in this article are provided. A list of the related genus Teinoptila Sauber, 1902 is given, including eleven newly proposed combinations and two revised combinations.

In total, the list includes 1,170 infraspecific taxa, 1,138 species from 524 genera, 114 families, and 46 orders. The dataset includes species whose occurrence has been confirmed to date, as well as taxa previously recorded within the city of Pinsk.

A key element in implementing these Directives is the establishment of the NATURA 2000 network to protect certain species and habitats of EU importance (Articles 3 and 4 of the Habitats Directive and Article 4 of the Birds Directive.\nUnder the Birds Directive, they must designate the core breeding, resting and wintering sites for 190 rare or threatened bird species listed in Annex I of the Directive, as well as for certain other migratory bird species. Under the Habitats Directive, countries must designate sites for over 1000 plant and animal species and 233 habitats. These are listed in Annexes I and II of the Directive respectively.\nThe proposed Project aims to implement steps 3 and 4 and to lay the groundwork for steps 5 and 6.\nThe creation of a dataset for the NATURA 2000 network requires the involvement of hundreds of experts (zoologists and botanists), as well as other stakeholders (local authorities, land users, and state authorities). This work must be carried out for each individual species according to EU methodology. The institutional capacity of state authorities does not enable them to perform this task independently. Therefore, we propose establishing an expert environment to prepare the dataset for the NATURA 2000 network and developing a clear system of interaction and engagement with key stakeholders, primarily state authorities responsible for preparing Ukraine for EU accession in terms of implementing the EU Habitats and Birds Directives' requirements.\nThe implementation of the proposed project will have an impact on the fulfillment of national and international commitments, including the following:\nThe Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union of 16 September 2014, in the section “Nature Protection” (Annex XXX to Chapter 6 “Environment”), provides for the implementation of the provisions of the Habitats and Birds Directives.\nBy Resolution No. 225/3 of 22 January 2025, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management approved the recommendations of the hearings on the topic “Legal framework for the functioning of an effective system of protected areas and sites as a basis for the conservation and restoration of biodiversity: current issues.” These recommendations stipulate the need to ensure the preparation and development of legislative amendments aimed at the full transposition of the provisions of the Habitats and Birds Directives, particularly regarding the establishment of conservation regimes for flora and fauna species listed in the annexes to these directives.\nAccording to paragraph 294 of the Government’s Priority Action Plan for 2025, it is envisaged to ensure the preparation of sectoral positions regarding the adaptation of legislation in areas of responsibility, including the field of environmental protection, as well as other international obligations of Ukraine in this area.\nThe primary stakeholders in the implementation of the Project are the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada (Prliament) of Ukraine on Ukraine’s Integration into the European Union and the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine (letters of support from these institutions are attached to the project proposal), as well as the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Environmental Policy and Nature Management. Abstract
Distoseptispora comprises ecologically significant species that are predominantly saprobic, inhabiting freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems, where they contribute to nutrient cycling and organic matter decomposition. Recent taxonomic studies have revealed several new Distoseptispora species, highlighting its high diversity. In this study, we describe two new species, Distoseptispora guanxiensis and D. longiconidiophora, isolated from decaying wood in southern China, thereby further expanding the known species richness of the genus. Based on multi-locus phylogenetic analyses integrated with the internal transcribed spacer (ITS), the large ribosomal subunit of the nuclear ribosomal DNA (LSU), the RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (rpb 2), and the translation elongation factor 1 - alpha (tef 1 - α), our isolates of D. guanxiensis formed a well-supported lineage sister to D. rayongensis, while D. longiconidiophora formed a basal position relative to the clade comprising D. cangshanensis, D. cylindricospora, D. hongheensis and D. pulchra. Morphological characteristics of the new species are compared with their phylogenetically close relatives, and detailed descriptions, illustrations, and phylogenetic data are provided. This study highlights the high diversity and distribution of Distoseptispora species, and emphasizes the importance of integrating morphological and molecular data for accurate species identification.

In the western Mediterranean, the Region of Murcia (SE Spain) is characterized by notable biodiversity and ecological heterogeneity, encompassing diverse habitats, including rocky shores, sandy beaches, seagrass meadows, and the Mar Menor, one of Europe’s largest hypersaline lagoons. This study presents the first comprehensive survey of culturable marine yeasts from the Mediterranean coast of the Region of Murcia. From seawater and sediment samples, 415 strains were identified via ITS and LSU rRNA sequencing, revealing 90 species across 44 genera, including 78 known taxa and 12 potentially novel ones. Most isolates were assigned to the phylum Ascomycota (62%), primarily distributed among the classes Pichiomycetes, Dothideomycetes, Saccharomycetes and Dipodascomycetes, whereas Basidiomycota accounted for the remaining 38%, mainly comprising the classes Tremellomycetes and Microbotryomycetes. The genera most represented in both seawater and sediment were Rhodotorula and Candida, and approximately 10% of the isolates corresponded to stress-tolerant black yeast-like fungi (Aureobasidium spp., Hortaea werneckii, Exophiala oligosperma, and Zalaria alba), a group notable for its taxonomic novelty and valuable biotechnological traits. Culturable yeast assemblages displayed pronounced spatiotemporal variability, with diversity generally increasing during milder seasons and in areas influenced by anthropogenic activity, suggesting the combined effect of natural gradients and human-driven alterations. ABSTRACT
Preservation of the digestive system in trilobites is extremely rare: from the Barrandian area, such remains have been recorded in two Cambrian and eight Ordovician trilobite genera. In this contribution we describe eight new examples of articulated trilobites displaying remains of the digestive system in the axial parts of the cephalon and thorax from the middle Cambrian Buchava Formation of the Skryje-Týřovice Basin. All studied specimens are identified as Ptychoparioides henkli Kordule, 2006 and exhibit up to four pairs of cavities or light-coloured markings under the central and posterior parts of the glabella, one pair in the occipital ring and up to six pairs in the axis of the anterior thoracic segments. These cavities or light-coloured markings are interpreted as remains of metamerically paired digestive caeca of the «perigastric organ». An anteriorly rounded, posteriorly widely V-shaped body preserved in the frontal glabellar lobe of a conical glabella in one specimen most probably represents a remnant of the foregut chamber. These specimens constitute the first example of digestive structures observed in Cambrian ptychopariid trilobites in the Barrandian area. A dark-coloured axial surface preserved in eight thoracic segments between and behind paired cavities or markings is present in two specimens; this surface is interpreted as remains of the hindgut. The occurrence of trilobites preserving digestive-system remains together with locally abundant articulated echinoderms and ontogenetic stages of trilobites, as well as previously described bivalved arthropods, confirm that the depositional environment of the Buchava Formation was favourable for exceptional preservation of fossils, including soft-tissue preservation.

Restes du système digestif du trilobite du Cambrien moyen Ptychoparioides henkli Kordule, 2006 (région du Barrandien, République tchèque).
La conservation du système digestif des trilobites est extrêmement rare: dans la région du Barrandien, de tels restes ont été découverts, correspondant à deux genres de trilobites du Cambrien et huit genres de l’Ordovicien. Nous décrivons huit nouveaux exemples de trilobites articulés présentant des restes de système digestif dans les parties axiales du céphalon et du thorax. Tous proviennent de la Formation de Buchava (Cambrien moyen), du bassin de Skryje-Týřovice. L’ensemble des spécimens étudiés sont identifiés comme Ptychoparioides henkli Kordule, 2006 et présentent jusqu’à quatre paires de cavités ou de marques de couleur claire sous les parties centrale et postérieure de la glabelle, une paire dans l’anneau occipital et jusqu’à six paires dans l’axe des segments thoraciques antérieurs. Ces cavités, ou marques de couleur claire, sont interprétées comme des restes de caeca digestifs appariés métamériquement de « l’organe périgastrique ». Chez un spécimen, un corps arrondi à l’avant, et en forme de large V à l’arrière, conservé dans le lobe glabellaire frontal d’une glabelle conique, représente très probablement un vestige de la chambre de l’intestin antérieur. Ces spécimens constituent le premier exemple de structures digestives observées chez les trilobites ptychopariidés du Cambrien dans la région barrandienne. Une surface axiale de couleur foncée préservée dans huit segments thoraciques entre et derrière des cavités ou des marques appariées est présente dans deux spécimens; cette surface est interprétée comme des restes de l’intestin postérieur. La présence de trilobites présentant des restes de système digestif, d’échinodermes articulés (localement abondants), de stades ontogénétiques de trilobites, ainsi que d’arthropodes bivalves décrits dans une étude précédente, confirment que l’environnement de dépôt de la Formation de Buchava était favorable à une conservation exceptionnelle des fossiles, y compris des tissus mous.

wild fauna and flora (the Habitats Directive) and Article 4 of Directive 2009/147/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 November 2009 on the conservation of wild birds (the Birds Directive), specifically regarding the establishment of the NATURA 2000 network.\nWithin the framework of Negotiation Cluster 4 on Ukraine’s EU accession – “Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity”, Chapter 27: Environment and Climate Change, Ukraine is required to reform its nature conservation system in line with the provisions of the Habitats Directive and the Birds Directive. A key element in implementing these Directives is the establishment of the NATURA 2000 network to protect certain species and habitats of EU importance (Articles 3 and 4 of the Habitats Directive and Article 4 of the Birds Directive.\nUnder the Birds Directive, they must designate the core breeding, resting and wintering sites for 190 rare or threatened bird species listed in Annex I of the Directive, as well as for certain other migratory bird species. Under the Habitats Directive, countries must designate sites for over 1000 plant and animal species and 233 habitats. These are listed in Annexes I and II of the Directive respectively.\nThe proposed Project aims to implement steps 3 and 4 and to lay the groundwork for steps 5 and 6.\nThe creation of a dataset for the NATURA 2000 network requires the involvement of hundreds of experts (zoologists and botanists), as well as other stakeholders (local authorities, land users, and state authorities). This work must be carried out for each individual species according to EU methodology. The institutional capacity of state authorities does not enable them to perform this task independently. Therefore, we propose establishing an expert environment to prepare the dataset for the NATURA 2000 network and developing a clear system of interaction and engagement with key stakeholders, primarily state authorities responsible for preparing Ukraine for EU accession in terms of implementing the EU Habitats and Birds Directives' requirements.\nThe implementation of the proposed project will have an impact on the fulfillment of national and international commitments, including the following:\nThe Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union of 16 September 2014, in the section “Nature Protection” (Annex XXX to Chapter 6 “Environment”), provides for the implementation of the provisions of the Habitats and Birds Directives.\nBy Resolution No. 225/3 of 22 January 2025, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management approved the recommendations of the hearings on the topic “Legal framework for the functioning of an effective system of protected areas and sites as a basis for the conservation and restoration of biodiversity: current issues.” These recommendations stipulate the need to ensure the preparation and development of legislative amendments aimed at the full transposition of the provisions of the Habitats and Birds Directives, particularly regarding the establishment of conservation regimes for flora and fauna species listed in the annexes to these directives.\nAccording to paragraph 294 of the Government’s Priority Action Plan for 2025, it is envisaged to ensure the preparation of sectoral positions regarding the adaptation of legislation in areas of responsibility, including the field of environmental protection, as well as other international obligations of Ukraine in this area.\nThe primary stakeholders in the implementation of the Project are the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada (Prliament) of Ukraine on Ukraine’s Integration into the European Union and the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine (letters of support from these institutions are attached to the project proposal), as well as the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Environmental Policy and Nature Management. The implementation of the Project directly contributes to the technical work outlined under Cluster 4 on Ukraine’s EU accession – “Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity”, Chapter 27: Environment and Climate Change. The Opir River basin is located among the mid-elevation ridges of the Skolivski Beskyds, characterised by considerable elevations (1,100–1,300 m a.s.l.). Characteristic features of the Skolivski Beskyds: first, steep slopes of the ridges, particularly on the northern aspect; second, the almost complete absence of longitudinal valleys; third, low population density due to the absence of longitudinal terrace valleys suitable for settlement; fourth, widespread forests covering more than 60% of the total area. Forests are represented predominantly by secondary Norway spruce (Picea abies) communities. A key element in implementing these Directives is the establishment of the NATURA 2000 network to protect certain species and habitats of EU importance (Articles 3 and 4 of the Habitats Directive and Article 4 of the Birds Directive.\nUnder the Birds Directive, they must designate the core breeding, resting and wintering sites for 190 rare or threatened bird species listed in Annex I of the Directive, as well as for certain other migratory bird species. Under the Habitats Directive, countries must designate sites for over 1000 plant and animal species and 233 habitats. These are listed in Annexes I and II of the Directive respectively.\nThe proposed Project aims to implement steps 3 and 4 and to lay the groundwork for steps 5 and 6.\nThe creation of a dataset for the NATURA 2000 network requires the involvement of hundreds of experts (zoologists and botanists), as well as other stakeholders (local authorities, land users, and state authorities). This work must be carried out for each individual species according to EU methodology. The institutional capacity of state authorities does not enable them to perform this task independently. Therefore, we propose establishing an expert environment to prepare the dataset for the NATURA 2000 network and developing a clear system of interaction and engagement with key stakeholders, primarily state authorities responsible for preparing Ukraine for EU accession in terms of implementing the EU Habitats and Birds Directives' requirements.\nThe implementation of the proposed project will have an impact on the fulfillment of national and international commitments, including the following:\nThe Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union of 16 September 2014, in the section “Nature Protection” (Annex XXX to Chapter 6 “Environment”), provides for the implementation of the provisions of the Habitats and Birds Directives.\nBy Resolution No. 225/3 of 22 January 2025, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management approved the recommendations of the hearings on the topic “Legal framework for the functioning of an effective system of protected areas and sites as a basis for the conservation and restoration of biodiversity: current issues.” These recommendations stipulate the need to ensure the preparation and development of legislative amendments aimed at the full transposition of the provisions of the Habitats and Birds Directives, particularly regarding the establishment of conservation regimes for flora and fauna species listed in the annexes to these directives.\nAccording to paragraph 294 of the Government’s Priority Action Plan for 2025, it is envisaged to ensure the preparation of sectoral positions regarding the adaptation of legislation in areas of responsibility, including the field of environmental protection, as well as other international obligations of Ukraine in this area.\nThe primary stakeholders in the implementation of the Project are the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada (Prliament) of Ukraine on Ukraine’s Integration into the European Union and the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine (letters of support from these institutions are attached to the project proposal), as well as the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Environmental Policy and Nature Management. The implementation of the Project directly contributes to the technical work outlined under Cluster 4 on Ukraine’s EU accession – “Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity”, Chapter 27: Environment and Climate Change. This work, along with its further communication within the Council of Europe and implementation in Ukraine, falls under the mandate of these government bodies, particularly regarding the transposition of EU directives.\nOther stakeholders include specialized scientific institutions, as well as civil society organizations working in the field of biodiversity conservation and protected areas support (it was through the efforts of these stakeholders that the Emerald Network of Ukraine was developed in the past).\nIndirectly, all citizens of Ukraine are also stakeholders, as achieving the Project’s objectives will contribute to advancing Ukraine’s progress toward European integration.\nThe project is funded as a part of EU INTEGRATION SUPPORT PROGRAMME FOR UKRAINE (Ukraine2EU).\nContracting authority: Central Project Management Agency (Lithuania)."},"samplingDescription":{"studyExtent":"The dataset consists of records located in Upper Dnister Beskyds in Lviv administrative region of Ukraine.\nThe Upper Dnister Beskyds consist of 7–8 low-mountain ridges with a typical Carpathian orientation. They are connected by numerous transverse valleys, creating a latticed dissection of the mountains. Heights generally reach 650 m a.s.l. The ridges appear as a series of ramparts with dome-shaped summits. The Beskyd section of the Dnister begins near the village of Limna. Up to the villages of Strilky and Verkhniy Luzhok, the Dnister crosses the ridges forming small meanders. In the Verkhniy Luzhok–Spas section, the river has eroded a longitudinal valley. Near Staryi Sambir, the valley width reaches about 2 km.
