Sparrows have colonized areas modified by humans since the onset of agriculture and seed storage. In fact, present day distributions of the sparrow populations are directly related to urban areas, farms and villages. Consequently the sedentary behaviour of sparrows, in pristine areas, with low densities of specimens, can act as a barrier to gene flow among populations. We analyzed the genetic variability and gene flow rates in four Italian sparrow populations sampled in areas affected by different levels of human activity. Population variability was analyzed by DNA fingerprinting with M13 multilocus minisatellite probe, which yielded multibanded fingerprints (the average number of bands was 25, ranging in size from 23 kb to 0.3 kb). The population located within the pristine area of the Cilento-Vallo di Diano National Park (San Marco) showed the higher value of within-population similarity (Sw = 0.73). This suggests a probable higher level of inbreeding in comparison with the other localities. The genetic isolation of the San Marco population is also imputable to the between-populations similarity values (Sb), that seem to be related with a preferential direction of gene circulation along urbanised corridors. The results show that population variability and gene flow rate in the Italian sparrow are directly related to the presence of urbanised areas. The results also show that the M13 multilocus fingerprinting probe represents a advantageous marker for the detection of genetic variability within a small geographical scale in passerine birds.

Abstract
Seventeen species of Tetrastichus Haliday from China are reviewed, including three country records species: T. brevicalcar Graham, 1991, T. pilemostomae Graham, 1991, T. temporalis (Graham) and new provincial distribution records are provided for another fourteen species. A new host association is documented for T. coelarchus Graham reared from larvae of Arge pullata (Zaddach, 1859). An illustrated key to females of all known Chinese Tetrastichus is given based on Chinese material.

Abstract
The genus Hohenbuehelia, widely distributed in temperate and tropical regions, plays an important role in forest ecosystems. However, the species diversity of Hohenbuehelia in China has been underestimated. This study presents the morphological and molecular characterization of three novel Hohenbuehelia species from China, enhancing the understanding of this genus in the region. Hohenbuehelia albomarginata is characterized by small, gray-brown to brown basidiomata with a frosted, concolorous tomentum on the pileus, often white at the margin, and elongate basidiospores. Hohenbuehelia striata differs in having brown, glabrous basidiomata that are laterally or dorsally attached, lacking a stipe or pseudostipe, with a very faintly translucent-striate pileus margin and ellipsoid to broadly ellipsoid basidiospores. Hohenbuehelia guizhouensis has a gray-brown to brown pileus covered with white tomentum, lamellae radiating from the point of attachment, and elongate, ellipsoid to subreniform basidiospores. Phylogenetic analyses based on multigene sequence data further support their taxonomic distinctiveness. All species are comprehensively described, illustrated, and compared with closely related and morphologically similar taxa. This study expands the known diversity of Hohenbuehelia and highlights the need for further exploration of fungal diversity in China.

Abstract
Two new species of miniature Telipogon (Orchidaceae: Oncidiinae) from eastern Ecuador, Telipogon marietalamae and T. puyensis, are described and illustrated. Phylogenetic analyses based on nuclear nrITS and plastid matK markers placed these two new taxa in distinct phylogenetic clades. Morphologically, the new species are distinguished from closely related taxa by unique combinations of floral characters. Telipogon marietalamae is characterized by its 1 - veined ligulate-lanceolate petals, a velvety, basally swollen lip, and dense tufts of stellate column setae with few apical tips, whereas T. puyensis is characterized by a facultatively branched inflorescence and column setae that are hispid from near the middle to the apex. The new species inhabit disturbed or secondary forests and are restricted to the Amazonian piedmont and Andean foothills of Ecuador. Furthermore, T. reventadorensis is treated here as a heterotypic synonym of T. hystrix, based on studies of field populations, and a taxonomic key for all known Ecuadorian miniature Telipogon is generated. These findings highlight the underestimated diversity of miniature Telipogon in the Andean – Amazonian region of Ecuador.

Abstract
A new species, Ormosia viridiflora C. Y. Zou & Yan Liu, from Guangxi, China, is described and illustrated. It differs from its congeners by the following combination of characters: shrubby habit; 5–11 leaflets with caudate apices; glabrous adaxial and subglabrous abaxial leaflet surfaces; tubular calyx; pods with leathery valves and inconspicuous transverse septa; pseudo-peltate standard petal (with basal auricles sheathing the claw apex); and five stamens. Palynological and leaf epidermal features are also documented. A preliminary IUCN assessment of Critically Endangered (CR) is proposed.

realizado nas áreas de influência da Estação de Tratamento de Água Piraí, no bairro Vila Nova, em Joinville, durante a fase de obras de ampliação da estação. O estudo cobre nove campanhas, de outubro de 2024 a setembro de 2026, e foi conduzido pela Camury Assessoria e Consultoria Ambiental para a Companhia Águas de Joinville. Seu objetivo é caracterizar a diversidade de aves da região, identificar espécies ameaçadas, endêmicas, migratórias e exóticas, comparar a composição entre as áreas amostradas e propor medidas mitigadoras. Um objetivo específico é acompanhar a maria-catarinense (Hemitriccus kaempferi), espécie-alvo da IBA Salto do Piraí.A área amostral está inserida numa grande extensão florestal de encosta, vinculada à APA Serra Dona Francisca e ao Parque Ecológico Prefeito Rolf Colin. Ela também inclui pequenas áreas de agricultura e pastagem, fragmentos florestais isolados, cursos d’água, pequenos lagos e banhados. Usamos pontos de escuta (seis pontos, 10 minutos cada, ao amanhecer), listas de Mackinnon, buscas ativas e amostragem noturna com playback para as corujas. As análises incluíram curva de acumulação com o estimador Jackknife 1, índice de Shannon, dominância de Simpson e similaridade de Jaccard, calculados no PAST. A taxonomia segue a lista do CBRO (Pacheco et al., 2021).Registramos 217 espécies de aves, em 20 ordens e 56 famílias. Isso corresponde a 61,6% das 352 espécies com ocorrência provável para a região e a 31% das 698 espécies catalogadas para Santa Catarina. O número de espécies novas por campanha caiu ao longo do monitoramento, o que indica que o inventário está se consolidando. Ainda assim, continuaram aparecendo registros relevantes, como espécies ameaçadas e sensíveis, entre elas Tinamus solitarius, Crypturellus noctivagus, Odontophorus capueira, Notharchus swainsoni, Platyrinchus leucoryphus, Sarcoramphus papa e Spizaetus melanoleucus.O índice de Shannon (H’) variou de 4,71 a 5,03 entre as campanhas. Esses valores são altos e estão acima do esperado para ambientes tropicais e subtropicais (maior que 3,0, segundo Vielliard & Silva, 1990). As oscilações refletem principalmente a sazonalidade, a presença de migratórias na primavera e no verão, o clima e o aumento do ruído e da movimentação de máquinas durante as obras.Confirmamos a presença da maria-catarinense (Hemitriccus kaempferi), mas com poucos indivíduos: um casal e um indivíduo solitário. Na nona campanha encontramos apenas um indivíduo sem anilha, o que pode indicar deslocamento ou predação dos indivíduos marcados. Em julho de 2026 observamos que a área 2, onde a espécie ocorre, foi colocada à venda. Se a vegetação for retirada, a espécie perde o único habitat ideal da área amostral.Concluímos que os impactos da obra estão restritos ao local da nova ETA, que já era antropizado, e não houve supressão significativa de vegetação remanescente. Observamos afugentamento temporário de algumas aves durante as obras, que tende a se reverter ao fim das atividades. Recomendamos manter o monitoramento, recuperar as APPs e preservar corredores entre os fragmentos, controlar a caça, umedecer as vias contra a poeira, cuidar do manejo dos insumos de tratamento e de suas embalagens, e continuar a devolutiva dos resultados à comunidade local.

","introduction":"As atividades humanas reduzem a vegetação contínua a fragmentos florestais isolados e alteram a diversidade de espécies, principalmente de predadores de topo e de dispersoras de sementes. A resposta das aves à fragmentação varia entre favorecimento, redução ou extinção local e ausência de mudança (Piratelli et al., 2005; Maldonado-Coelho & Marini, 2003; Sick, 1997). Santa Catarina tem 698 espécies de aves (Jacobs & Fenalti, 2023), das quais 91 estão ameaçadas (CONSEMA, 2026), em sua maioria dependentes de floresta, banhados ou campo natural. Por isso, as aves são consideradas bioindicadoras da qualidade ambiental.O estudo foi feito na ETA Piraí, no bairro Vila Nova, zona rural de Joinville, dentro da APA Serra Dona Francisca e junto ao Parque Ecológico Prefeito Rolf Colin. A vegetação original é Floresta Ombrófila Densa Submontana e Aluvial, com estágios secundários inicial e médio, além de áreas antropizadas. Abstract
Amongst the most extraordinary extinct ophiuroids is the genus Astrosombra from the Upper Cretaceous of Germany. Initially known from isolated ossicles only, the extremely expanded lateral arm plates suggested an aberrant body shape comparable to that seen in the extraordinary astrophiurid genus Astrophiura. Here, we describe the first articulated specimen of Astrosombra rammsteinensis, the type and only known species of the genus, from the type locality of the taxon, showing the highly modified lateral arm plates in their anatomical context and providing insights into the general skeletal morphology. The new specimen confirms the presence of extremely widened arms, formed by the aberrantly expanded lateral arm plates articulating with unusually wide vertebrae and covered dorsally by multiple rows of dorsal arm plates. The width of the arms is further increased by large, flat, feather-like arm spines. MicroCT images of the articulated disc revealed morphological details, in particular, high oral plates with wing-like expansions, suggesting transfer of Astrosombra from the Amphilimnidae to the Ophiopsilidae. In analogy with Astrophiura, the extremely widened arms, the fringe of flat arm spines, the large tentacle pores and the overall flat body shape suggest that Astrosombra inhabited the small, patchy hard substrates formed by the skeletal remains of other organisms.

Abstract (source data set, Kuerzel et al. 2023): Comparable deep-water benthos datasets collected by epibenthic sledges (EBS) with an epibenthic and a suprabenthic netsampler in the Atlantic Ocean have been gathered since 2006. They were collected during the international research expeditions: ANDEEP-SYSTCO II, BIOPEARL I, DIVA1-3, IceAGE1-3RR, IceDIVA1,2, JR275 and Vema-TRANSIT. While EBS diversity data at high taxon level were published for ANDEEP_SYSTCO II, DIVA1-3 and Vema-TRANSIT, unpublished diversity data for BIOPEARL I, IceAGE1-3RR, IceDIVA1, 2 and JR275 came from sample databases at DZMB Senckenberg and British Antarctic Survey, and are published here for the first time. In total, diversity data for 143 EBS deployments from 13 expeditions were available for analyses based on identification on 50 taxon levels, including phyla, subphyla, classes and orders. During all 13 expeditions EBS with an epibenthic and a suprabenthic netsampler following sampler sizes and height , enabling comparability of samples. This type of EBS was a suitable device for sampling small benthic fauna on and above the seabed, including macrofauna and small-sized megafauna. We analyse pan-Atlantic benthic data from a range (119m - 8338m) of depths. For the pan-Atlantic analyses we defined seven regions to pool EBS locations based on their position North and South of the Equator and to the mid-Atlantic Ridge (MAR): East and West of the MAR, the Vema Fracture Zone as a gap in the MAR, the Southern Ocean south of the MAR and the Puerto Rico Trench as a deep-sea trench. In this study we included data for 41 higher taxa of the initially separated 50 taxa ranging from phyla to orders. The environmental parameters for this study were provided by Bio-ORACLE, which identifies mean values for different physical and chemical variables over a 14 year time period through a combination of satellite and in-situ measurements (2000 - 2014), at a resolution of 5 arcmin.

Annelida were separated into Polychaeta, Sipunculida, Oligochaeta and Hirudinea. The phylum Arthropoda was split into the subphylum Chelicerata and Crustacea, with the former comprising Pycnogonida and Acarina and the latter crustacean order levels. Chordata only consisted of Tunicates. Echinodermata and Mollusca were separated into classes. For the DIVA1 & 2 data sets, Cnidaria and Echinodermata were not further discriminated into classes. For the DIVA-1, IceAGE 1-3 &_RR and IceDIVA1, 2 data sets, Aplacophora were not separated into Caudofoveata and Solenogastres. So, if corresponding data on class assignment were available, these were reported separately.\n\nEnvironmental variables are NOT measured in situ, but rather modelled values extracted from the Bio-ORACLE v2.0 gridded layers (Assis et al. 2018, https://doi.org/10.1111/geb.12693) at each station's coordinates. Bio-ORACLE v2.0 layers derive from ocean reanalysis and biogeochemical hindcast products (ARMOR3D, ORAP and PISCES, ~0.25 degree resolution) and satellite ocean-colour (GlobColour, ~0.05 degree); the specific source model for each variable is recorded in that measurement's measurementRemarks in their ExtendedMeasurementOrFact extension. Matching on geographical coordinates, rather than station names, across files resolves all of these issues; the environmental values are unchanged, only the event they attach to. A consequence of matching on coordinates is that two stations, 2–6 and 2–7, carry no environmental data in this archive. BioOracle_factors.csv does contain rows labelled 2–6 and 2–7, but at coordinates roughly 600 km (about 6° of longitude) from the EBSevents.csv stations of those names (part of the same label misalignment), so matching by name would have attached environmental values from the wrong location. These two stations are therefore published without environmental measurements rather than with mismatched ones. EBSevents.csv and BioOracle_factors.csv disagree on some cruise names, which were each verified against the cruise reports themselves. For example, EBSevents.csv’s stated “JR276” is inconsistent with that cruise's report (DIMES, a physical‑oceanography cruise in the SE Pacific / Drake Passage, no benthic sampling). The Weddell Sea location and epibenthic sledge gear match JR275, so BioOracle_factors.csv’s stated JR275 was used.\n\nThe latitudes of twelve south‑western Atlantic stations (cruise M79/1, in the Argentine and Brazilian basins) have also been corrected. These were recorded with positive, northern‑hemisphere latitudes that place them in the wrong hemisphere for the region their own records name. Abstract
A new species Euonymus saxatilis M. T. An, Jian Qiu & Xu Wu, sp. nov. (Celastraceae) from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, is described and illustrated based on morphological characteristics and molecular evidence. Morphologically, the species is most similar to E. dielsianus, but differs in the following characters: leaves obovate or obcordate, inflorescence 1–3 - flowered, peduncle 2–4.5 cm, style distinct. Phylogenetic analyses based on ITS and trnL-F sequences strongly support the status of E. saxatilis as a distinct new species within the genus Euonymus (BS = 100 %), which is resolved as sister to E. dielsianus with strong bootstrap support (BS = 98 %).

Abstract
The fish family Rhamphocottidae is a small group of fishes that primarily inhabits cold temperate waters of the North Pacific Ocean. With 3 genera and 5 species recognized as valid, only one species, Ereunias grallator Jordan et Snyder, 1901, has been reported from southern Taiwan. Here, we report three specimens of Marukawichthys ambulator Sakamoto, 1931 collected off northeastern Taiwan. Detailed description of the specimens is provided and compared to other specimens collected from Japan, with variations noted. It is suggested that M. ambulator has a rather wide range of distribution in the western North Pacific.

bird tracking dataset published by the Centre for Research on Ecology, Cognition and Behaviour of Birds at Ghent University and the Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO). It contains animal tracking data for the project/study RRP_VLAANDEREN, using trackers developed by Druid (https://druid.tech). The study has been operational since 2025. One individual of rose-ringed parakeet (Psittacula krameri) was tagged as a test in 2025 and eighteen in 2026 (not yet included). The main goal of the study is to determine the home-range sizes in urban environments, seasonal dynamics in home-ranges, habitat selection, foraging behavior and foraging site choice. Data are automatically synced with Movebank and from there periodically archived on Zenodo (see https://github.com/inbo/bird-tracking).
This dataset was collected using infrastructure provided by INBO and funded by Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO, grant no. 1172826N) and the Methusalem Program (Ghent University, grant no. BOF.MET.2021.0002.01).
Data have been standardized to Darwin Core using the movepub R package and are subsampled to the first GPS position per hour. The original data are available in De Witte et al. (2026, https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.23564124), a deposit of Movebank study 9343041295.

Literature sources dating back to the late 19th century were analyzed, and the occurrences were georeferenced to modern settlements. Prior to the publication of this dataset, the occurrence of the family Tetrasporaceae in Ukraine was significantly underrepresented in the GBIF network, with only 5 records previously available.
