Diptera: types (non-De Meijere)
ZMAN contains important type material of Diptera, mainly originating from the Oriental and Australasian regions. Basically the types in the Diptera collection can be divided into those of species described by J. C. H. de Meijere and those that were described by other authors. The approximately 1.200 De Meijere species with circa 4.000 type specimens have been inventoried and their data have been digitised and made publicly available. The non-De Meijere types count approximately 5200 specimens (of which 60 non-types). Types constitute the unique building blocks in taxonomy and knowledge of this material is essential for an adequate reconstruction of the Tree of Life.
