","gettingStarted":"The dataset contains information on tree species diversity and community composition across four forest sites with different elevations within a university landscape in southwestern Nigeria. The dataset comprises 8 sampling plots (50 × 50 m; 0.25 ha each) established systematically along line transects, covering an elevation range of 300–400 m a.s.l. Tree individuals with a diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥ 10 cm were recorded and identified. The dataset includes tree species names, taxonomic classifications, DBH measurements, sampling site, plot information, and elevation. A total of 108 tree species were recorded. The data can be used to assess species diversity, richness, distribution, and community patterns along an altitudinal gradient and between hill and secondary forests.

Abstract
The plant bug genus Engytatus (Heteroptera, Miridae) is represented by 29 species globally, with a small insular radiation in Hawaii, many of which show strong host-plant specificity. Recent botanical survey efforts in challenging terrain on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, utilizing a remotely operated aerial drone collection tool, resulted in the discovery of a previously unknown plant species, the recently described Schiedea waiahuluensis (Caryophyllaceae), that also harbors an undescribed Engytatus species, described here as Engytatus pali. Based on characters of the male genitalia, antennae and rostrum, this new taxon appears most closely related to several other Engytatus species endemic to Kauai and Oahu. Photomicrographs are provided of diagnostic characters for the new species and other similar congeners from Kauai and Oahu, along with notes on its association with the host species S. waiahuluensis. This discovery highlights the utility of novel aerial drone collection techniques in documenting the biodiversity of remote, topographically inaccessible habitats, for both plant and insect species.

","introduction":"Uganda is one of the most biodiversity-rich countries in Africa, with several major biomes converging in the country. Currently, Uganda has about 22% of world’s amphibian and 19% reptilian species, yet key taxa remain poorly known or undocumented. The species distribution for both amphibians and reptiles in several key sites is incomplete or altogether missing. This grant will train a group of 10 students and 20 assistants in accurate field data collection (including taxonomy, population status and distribution) through both in situ and lab work.This effort estimates that some 50,000 records will be generated, uploaded and publicly shared on data portals (GBIF/NBDB). Amphibians are well known to be key indicator species for wetlands and this project will mobilize taxonomic records and provide critical baseline data for evaluating biodiversity richness in the project areas, and to identify, map and promote conservation of freshwater Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs).

Abstract. The Savignia genus group includes nine morphologically complex yet similar genera where species were assigned based mainly on the cephalic lobes. Among these genera, males of Diplocephalus Bertkau, 1883, Savignia Blackwall, 1833 and Araeoncus Simon, 1884 show some of the most extraordinary cephalic lobes among dwarf spiders (Linyphiidae, Erigoninae). In this study we undertake the first phylogenetic analysis of the Savignia genus group. We use 269 morphological characters (175 newly defined) and 70 taxa (59 ingroup taxa) to reconstruct the relationships and evolutionary trends of cephalic lobes in this lineage. Our findings show that cephalic lobes with varying shapes and sizes appear in several Savignia genus group lineages, highlighting that it is not a good diagnostic character. The high support in several clades allows the redefinition of the genera Savignia, Diplocephalus, Araeoncus, Erigonella Dahl, 1901, Dicymbium Menge, 1868 and Glyphesis Simon, 1926 based on synapomorphies and leads to new species assignments. Our results also show that while genera are well supported, their interrelationships are not, suggesting that genera closely related with the Savignia genus group may need further revision. Simplified, the generic relationships of the Savignia genus group are Glyphesis (Dicymbium (( Erigonella (Hemistajus resurrected rank, Savignia )) (Diastanillus (Diplocephalus, Araeoncus ))).

Sin embargo, el conocimiento sobre su diversidad en provincias como Santander sigue siendo limitado, lo que a su vez complica los procesos de toma de decisiones en materia de conservación. Presentamos el inventario de escarabajos coprófagos de cuatro zonas de vida en el departamento de Santander. El muestreo se realizó en áreas boscosas y abiertas, con un total de 4346 individuos pertenecientes a 56 especies. Además, se encontraron tres especies de escarabajos coprófagos, registrando nuevos datos para la región y para el departamento de Santander. Estos datos se tomaron bajo el contrato con la CDMB No. 13408-04 del 2021 - Proyecto Estructura Ecologica Principal y Restauracion Ecologica.

Abstract. The ʻcampo rupestreʼ is a montane vegetation mosaic associated with rocky outcrops, with outstanding levels of species diversity and endemism. Among its most diverse lineages, Rubiaceae ranks among the ten richest families. Hexasepalum Bartl. ex DC. is nested in the Spermacoce clade of Spermacoceae, the largest predominantly herbaceous tribe in the Rubiaceae. The genus comprises 14 accepted species and is distributed mostly in the Americas. Brazil is home to eight species, occurring mainly in the Caatinga and Cerrado (including the ʻcampo rupestreʼ) domains. The analysis of specimens collected in the ʻcampo rupestreʼ of Bahia (NE Brazil) and Minas Gerais (SE Brazil) revealed two species new to science. Hexasepalum bacigalupoae Cabaña Fader & E.L.Cabral sp. nov. and Hexasepalum motaviananum Cabaña Fader, J.A.M.Carmo & R.M.Salas sp. nov. are described and illustrated. We comment on their distribution, habitat, and taxonomy. We also provide an updated key to the species of Hexasepalum in the Americas. Hexasepalum bacigalupoae and H. motaviananum are preliminarily assessed as Endangered and Critically Endangered, respectively, underscoring the crucial importance of conserving the ʻcampo rupestreʼ.

Abstract. The family Cirratulidae is a diverse group of benthic polychaetes with about 400 species described worldwide. Fifty-eight nominal species are recorded in Europe, but recent DNA analyses have revealed that between 83 and 96 additional species inhabit European benthic environments and probably most of them are still undescribed. In this paper, two historical species are re-described due to the lack of details about some relevant morphological characters in the original descriptions: Aphelochaeta marioni (Saint-Joseph, 1894) and Aphelochaeta mcintoshi (Southern, 1914) comb. nov. Following these redescriptions, three new species of the genera Aphelochaeta and Tharyx are described: Aphelochaeta annae sp. nov., Aphelochaeta elinorae sp. nov. and Tharyx emmae sp. nov. Finally, new records of Tharyx maryae Blake & Göransson, 2015, Tharyx robustus Blake & Göransson, 2015 and Kirkegaardia serrata (Eliason, 1962) are presented along with a description of the material examined.

Abstract. Elaphropoda Lieftinck, 1966 and Habropoda Smith, 1854 are two rarely collected genera belonging to the family Apidae. Elaphropoda is found to be restricted to the Oriental region with 13 extant species. Habropoda is a rather extensively distributed genus with a total of 55 species worldwide. We describe two new species (Elaphropoda triangulata sp. nov. and Habropoda adi sp. nov.) belonging to these genera, based on two male specimens collected from Arunachal Pradesh, India. The importance of male holotypes in rarely collected Hymenoptera is highlighted. Also, the rarity of anthophorine bees in collections and the distribution pattern of Elaphropoda and Habropoda are discussed. Identification keys and distribution maps to the Indian species of Elaphropoda and Habropoda are provided.

Abstract. We describe three new species of mollusks and report 11 species identifications, from Upper Miocene strata of the Dar Pahn Unit at the Makran margin of southeastern Iran. The new species are the gastropods Bufonaria chabaharensis sp. nov., Cancilla makranensis sp. nov. and the bivalve Corbula darpahnensis sp. nov. The new identifications include the gastropods Protoma harrisoni (Cox, 1936), Protoma kayalensis (Dey, 1961), Neverita didyma (Röding, 1798), Natica vitellus (Linnaeus, 1758), and the bivalves Anadara blanfordi (Newton, 1905), Fascipecten shanganiensis (Eames & Cox, 1958), Pecten kilindoniensis Eames & Cox, 1956, Dosinia peralta Vredenburg, 1928, Clementia papyracea (Gmelin, 1791), Paratapes protolirata (Noetling, 1901) and Arcopaginula inflata (Gmelin, 1791). The pectinid subgenus Fascipecten is raised to genus level. During the Late Miocene, seven of the species were found mainly in the northwestern part of the Indian Ocean, six had a broad Indo-West Pacific distribution. This indicates the existence of a ‘Western Indian Province’ within the Indo-West Pacific Ocean, as reported for the Early Miocene, although less distinct as during the Early Miocene.

Abstract
As currently defined, Pristimantis subsigillatus is a species of the P. lacrimosus species group distributed in the Chocó of Colombia and Ecuador, from lowlands to Andean foothill forests. Upon re-examination of the holotype of P. subsigillatus, we conclude that the populations currently ascribed to P. subsigillatus are not conspecific with the holotype. Instead, the holotype is conspecific with one of the syntypes of P. latidiscus, a species described four years before from a nearby locality. To avoid the ambiguity in the application of the binomen Hylodes latidiscus, we designate a lectotype. As a result, P. subsigillatus becomes a junior synonym of P. latidiscus. The misidentified populations represent an undescribed species which we describe based on morphological, bioacoustic, and genetic data as Pristimantis milpe sp. nov. The new species has one of the widest distributions among Chocoan Pristimantis and is unusual for having sexual dimorphism in coloration. It is most closely related to Pristimantis degener from which it diverged in the late Miocene and is morphologically distinct. The fact that such a common species remained “ invisible ” to taxonomy highlights the importance of correctly establishing the link between the name-bearing types and natural populations. Finally, we discuss how taxonomic treatments of Pristimantis during the second half of the 20 th century often made this non-trivial error.

Abstract
The status of Phoeochroops Candèze, 1876 and of five subsequent spellings is reviewed. Phoeochroops is confirmed as the correct original spelling by an act of the First Reviser, with Phoeocroops considered an incorrect subsequent spelling. Phaechroops, Paechroops and Phaeocroops are incorrect subsequent spellings and are not available names. Phaeochroops, although an incorrect subsequent spelling, is in prevailing usage and could be considered the valid name under Article 33.3.1 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, except that the Code provides no criteria for determining what constitutes prevailing usage of a subsequent spelling, only of names. Modifications to the Code that would clearly define prevailing usage for alternative spellings are suggested.

Abstract. Cyclocephala everardoi Grossi, Santos & Almeida, 2016 and Cyclocephala machadoi Grossi, Santos & Almeida, 2016 comprise a distinct species group within Cyclocephala Dejean, 1821. This group was previously characterized by species with subtrapezoidal or parabolic clypeus, large eyes, antennae with long lamellae and parameres with a spine-like process on each lateroventral region. Here, two new species of the group are described from Brazil: Cyclocephala catimbauensis sp. nov., from the Caatinga biome in Pernambuco state, and Cyclocephala nhumirim sp. nov., from the Pantanal biome in Mato Grosso do Sul state. The new species are illustrated along with their differential diagnoses. An identification key and a distribution map for species of the group are provided. Additionally, a brief discussion on the characters that define the “ machadoi ” group is also presented.

Abstract. Two new species of Trichorhina Budde-Lund, 1908, the most diverse genus of the family Platyarthridae, are described from the Ibero-Balearic region: T. guadianensis sp. nov. (Portugal) and T. malacitana sp. nov. (Spain). The two species are distinguished by differences in dorsal integument texture, scale-setae arrangement, shape of the telson, posterior pereonites margins, and male pleopod 1. Trichorhina guadianensis sp. nov. is characterised by a smooth dorsal integument with longitudinal lines of fan-shaped scale-setae of different sizes, rounded posterior margins of pereonites 1–4, triangular telson, and a heart-shaped male pleopod 1 exopod. Trichorhina malacitana sp. nov. is characterised by the absence of pigmentation and eyes, transverse lines of fan-shaped scale-setae, triangular telson, and an oval male pleopod 1 exopod. The position of the noduli laterales on the pereonites provides additional diagnostic characters for the identification of all species of the genus. A revised dichotomous key for all species of Trichorhina in the Ibero-Balearic region is provided.

Abstract
Eight new species of the genus Ischnothyreus Simon, 1893 are described from Hainan, China: I. bawangling Tong & Li, sp. nov. (♂ ♀), I. diaoluoshan Tong & Li, sp. nov. (♂ ♀), I. hongxin Tong & Li, sp. nov. (♂ ♀), I. jianfengling Tong & Li, sp. nov. (♂ ♀), I. limuling Tong & Li, sp. nov. (♂ ♀), I. liudao Tong & Li, sp. nov. (♂ ♀), I. luobidong Tong & Li, sp. nov. (♂ ♀) and I. wuzhishan Tong & Li, sp. nov. (♂). Diagnoses and illustrations for all eight species are given.

Abstract
Solenopsis is a diverse genus of myrmicine ants with a global distribution. Several extinct species have been described but these occurrences are limited to the Palaearctic as imprint fossils. Wilson (1985, 1988) mentioned specimens of Solenopsis preserved in Dominican amber (Middle Miocene, ca. 16 Ma), though these have not been formally described. Through ethanol exposure and Raman spectroscopy, we assessed the provenance of several putative amber specimens in museum collections. We identified multiple instances of labeled amber specimens that are instead most likely subfossil copal or recent resin – these include specimens in a historical collection. Based on material with provenance and properties consistent with fossil resin, or, amber, we report five new fossil species of minor workers attributed to the genus Solenopsis: S. lamellata sp. nov., S. pilonaria sp. nov., S. merengue sp. nov., S. viralata sp. nov., and S. picapica sp. nov. One of the species described, S. lamellata sp. nov., is highly aberrant, possessing a spine-like lamella on the posterior margin of the propodeum, a trait not shared with any known Solenopsis species. The discovery of these five fossil species sheds light on the biogeographic history of the genus Solenopsis. Beyond ants, these results highlight the need for caution in assuming the provenance of specimens from museum collections and commercial sources.

Abstract
Previous studies have indicated the polyphyly of Scincella modesta and reported a new record of Scincella vandenburghi in Qingdao, Shandong Province. Furthermore, the research highlighted significant morphological similarities between the Qingdao population of S. vandenburghi and a branch of S. modesta from Hubei, leaving the taxonomic boundaries between these two species unclear. To better understand the relationship between S. modesta and S. vandenburghi, we conducted extensive sampling in the Dabie Mountains, which geographically lie between Qingdao, Ningbo and Yichang. Based on phylogenetic analyses and morphological comparisons, we identify an undescribed species of the genus Scincella from the Dabie Mountains, China and also discover the presence of a population of S. vandenburghi in the same region. Morphological characteristics and molecular phylogenetic analyses indicate that the new species is similar to S. vandenburghi, but clearly distinct from it and other congeners. The new species has the following characteristics: (1) slender body, small size, snout-vent length 24.47–40.60 mm; (2) supraciliaries 6 or 7; (3) midbody scale row counts 28–31; (4) dorsal scales smooth and slightly enlarged, paravertebral scale row counts 55–68, ventral scale row counts 55–64; (5) upper edge of lateral longitudinal stripes relatively wavy, lower edge irregular, covering 2–2.5 scale rows on the trunk; (6) black dorsolateral stripes from posterior corner of eye to lateral side of tail, six rows of dorsal scales in middle; (7) supralabials 7, infralabials 6 or 7; (8) tympanum diameters significantly smaller than palpebral disc diameters; (9) 9–12 enlarged lamellae beneath finger IV and 14–17 beneath toe IV; (10) 3–4 pairs of nuchal scales; (11) when the limbs are pressed down, toes and fingers touch or overlap. Phylogenetic analyses indicate that the population from the Dabie Mountains in Anhui Province, China, represents a new species, with a 3 % uncorrected genetic distance in 16 S rRNA from its closest relative (S. vandenburghi). This discovery brings the total number of Scincella species in China to 19, identifying the known distribution of the genus. We have made preliminary progress in clarifying the relationship between S. vandenburghi and S. modesta; however, the polyphyletic issues surrounding S. modesta warrant further investigation in future research. Additionally, the distribution patterns and divergence times of the two Scincella species in the Dabie Mountains require further study to gain a more comprehensive understanding.

Abstract
Ophiorrhiza xinchengensis (Rubiaceae), a new species from the middle part of Guangxi, China, is described and illustrated on the basis of morphological evidence. This new species resembles Ophiorrhiza longanensis in its densely pubescent stems, linear stipules, terminal or upper axillary inflorescences, but it can be distinguished by its elliptic or oblanceolate leaf blade, base attenuate (vs. oval, ovate to broadly ovate, base cuneate), its 2–3 mm long stipules (vs. 3.8–6.5 mm long), its 3–5 mm long bracteoles (vs. 6–10 mm long) its 10–12 mm long corolla tubes (vs. 2–3 mm long) and its filaments adnate at the middle of corolla tube, styles 12–15 mm long (vs. adnate to the base of corolla tube and styles ca. 3 mm long). The new species is currently known from a single population with approximately 60–100 mature individuals. Following IUCN Criteria, it is provisionally assessed as Critically Endangered. Photographs, an illustration and a distribution map are also provided.
