Global conservation status follows the IUCN Red List; national conservation status, where a taxon is included in a country's Red Data Book, is recorded separately. Vernacular names in the national languages of the region are also provided.

Where an infraspecific taxon recognized in regional literature is not currently reflected in the Catalogue of Life / GBIF Backbone Taxonomy, this is explicitly noted.

The checklist was originally compiled as a taxonomic foundation for a biodiversity modelling platform projecting the distribution of Central Asian fauna through 2100 (https://wingeds.world/biodiv) — as a synthesis of scattered published data. In the course of this work, it became apparent that no consolidated, publicly available checklist of the region's fauna had existed since Soviet-era faunistic surveys.

As a result, the checklist is published on GBIF under the CC0 open license and is freely available for use by all interested parties. An online version of the list, presented in a more accessible tabular format, is available at https://wingeds.world/ca/reptile, with downloads available in CSV, JSON, and XML formats.

For most species, current species distribution modelling (SDM) results are also provided, along with projections for 2040, 2070, and 2100.

The list of species/subspecies, presence status, and conservation status per country represents a compilation of sources and is not the result of field research or original taxonomic description. The aims of the project are: species distribution modelling (SDM), assessment of presence status per country, flagging discrepancies with the Catalogue of Life, and consolidating previously scattered regional data into a single standardized, machine-readable format.

The compiler will make every effort to keep the checklist up to date. It will be revised as new data and publications become available; comments and corrections from specialists are welcome and can be submitted by email to the compiler or via the platform page.

---

Catalogue of Life / GBIF Backbone Taxonomy,

CSV, JSON, XML.

","language":"eng","homepage":"https://wingeds.world/ca/reptile","citation":{"text":"Adzhigildyaev P (2026).
