The list includes specimens primarily collected in Italy starting from 1989 using qualitative methods, including some Italian endemisms. This is the personal A. Buffagni’s slide collection and has the dual purpose of increasing knowledge about Italian Ephemeroptera species through morphological study and serving as a reference tool for cataloguing and quantifying Italy's Ephemeroptera biodiversity. Each row in the dataset corresponds to a slide containing dissected body parts (e.g., mouthparts, thorax, abdomen). Typically, each individual is mounted on a single slide (i.e., row); however, in some cases, the same individual is mounted on multiple slides due to its size. As part of the ITINERIS project and the National Biodiversity Future Centre (NBFC), Ephemeroptera samples have been curated, catalogued, and digitised to make natural history collections virtually available to the public at any level, simplifying access and sharing of information. Drawings, preserved specimens and photographs of living specimens can be added to the collection. Licence of use: both access and use are free to any non-commercial user (CC-BY-NC 4.0). The authors recommend users to provide a link to the original dataset in GBIF (https://www.gbif.org/dataset/1c016e80-a3dc-47d5-b49b-cd89885992d0) and to cite the present paper when using the data.
