Geographically\nAlibaug town is positioned at the coast of Arabian Sea. On its east are the Western Ghats.\nTowards south is Ratnagiri district which is part of Konkan region and on the north is\nthe metro city Mumbai. Alibaug town is situated at around 120 km south of Mumbai and 143\nkm from Pune cities. Revdanda, Chaul, Nagaon, Akshi, Varsoli, Thal, Navgaon, Kihim and\nAawas are some of the famous tourist destination. Over the past years Alibaug has become one\nof the important tourist destination in Maharashtra.\nApart from beaches and tourist destinations this site has been poorly studied for other factors\nlike forest cover, wildlife and biodiversity.\nIndia is a country having coastal coverage on east, west and south sides by Bay of Bengal and\nArabian Sea respectively. The coastline admeasuring 7500 km in length, exhibits remarkable\nfloral and faunal diversity which has been well explored by researchers. On the other\nhand the forests of Alibaug has been poorly studied for biodiversity and wildlife. The Phansad\nWildlife Sanctuary, which is one of the protected area situated around 41 km from Alibaug has\nbeen well studied forest area for wildlife and biodiversity. Amphibians and Reptiles. All the selected sites were assessed for 3hrs during night between 7 PM to 11 PM to collect data for Amphibians and Reptiles. Data for Herpetofauna were collected through non-lethal technique. High quality photographs were taken for each individual and identified up to Genus and species level. Also, habitat data were collected for each species for habitat co-relation. This was a rapid survey which is used to get overall idea about the diversity of Amphibians and reptiles from the targeted area.\n\nBird Survey: All-out search and opportunistic sampling were used to collect data for Birds. Bird diversity data was collected from all the study sites. This method will help us to create a baseline data for diversity of bird species found in forests of Alibaug.\n\nTree survey: Surveys to document plant diversity was conducted in the Kamathwadi (Hamlet) and Khutgain (Hamlet) in Bitwagle Village, Hondawadi(Hamlet) and Barshet Hamlet, Borghar Village. Species of plants were recorded by walking on a trail across Woodland, Grassland and Streams,through the private forest under the jurisdiction of each hamlet. The plants were recorded by local names and were later identified using electronic reference materials.
