It stretches from Nyamukana town council at the border of Ntungamo and Rwampara districts and extends eastwards into two long arms with a total approximate perimeter of 83 kilometres and total area of 26 square kilometres. It is situated off Ntungamo-Mbarara highway at an altitude of 1451-1486 metres above sea level, latitude 0°45'57.3'' S and longitude 30°20'57.1'' E. It encloses two small islands. The dominant plant species is papyrus (Cyperus papyrus) though some patches of the area are dominated by other plant species including ferns, trees, shrubs and other wetland vegetation. The main activities in the buffer zone include cattle grazing, pineapple growing, eucalyptus growing, coffee and banana plantations and to some extent bee keeping.","designDescription":"The research design was a quantitative study. Distance bands were used to estimate the distance between the observer and the birds\n\nCall playback was used when target species were not initially detected.
