This sample type contains taxonomic identifications derived from analysis of these specimens.\r\nSampling\r\n\r\nLakes &amp;amp; rivers: visited three times per year; 10 randomized points\r\n\r\nVisit 1 (spring): presence/absence only (no collection)\r\nVisit 2 (mid-summer): collection occurs via rake or quadrant sampling\r\nVisit 3 (fall): presence/absence only (no collection)\r\n\r\n\r\nWadable streams: visited three times per year; 10 transects\r\n\r\nVisit 1 (spring): point count visual survey only (only collection for identification)\r\nVisit 2 (mid-summer): point count visual survey and clip harvest collection occurs at a quadrant near each transect\r\nVisit 3 (fall): point count visual survey only (only collection for identification)\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMethods\r\n\r\nClip harvest sampling\r\n\r\nRake collection at rivers/lakes if rooted plants\r\nQuadrant sampling at rivers/lakes if non-rooted plants\r\nQuadrant sampling at wadable streams\r\n\r\n\r\nOnly collect if there are enough available plants\r\nUp to 10 total samples taken per bout (one per point/quadrant)\r\n\r\nPreservation\r\n\r\nSamples identified and separated by taxon at the domain support facility\r\nUncertain taxa are prepared and sent to an expert taxonomist, sent to Biorepository after\r\n\r\nVascular plants dried and pressed as herbarium specimens\r\nBryophytes and lichens dried and stored in envelope packets as herbarium specimens\r\nMacroalgae stored in 2% glutaraldehyde\r\n\r\n\r\nProcessed for ash-free dry mass (all) and chemical analyses (plants and bryopytes only)\r\n\r\n\r\n</p>","language":"eng","citation":{"text":"National Ecological Observatory Network (2026).
