Temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen were measured throughout the study.","relatedProjects":[]},"samplingDescription":{"studyExtent":"Bedford Basin","sampling":"The aim of this study was to measure the amount and composition of material sedimented at various depths throughout the year.\n\nMeasurement of sedimentation summarized in this study were made as part of continuing efforts by the Marine Ecology Laboratory to describe and quantify processes of biological production in coastal marine waters.\n\nSediment traps, consisted of PVC or glass tubes closed at one end, 31 cm tall and 7.5 cm inside diameter, held in stainless steel holders. Four cylinders were mounted in each holder. These were clamped at 10 m intervals along a stainless steel wire held in position by an anchor and subsurface float suspended at 8 m.\n\nSamples were usually collected from sediment traps at 28 day intervals although occasionally traps were emptied after 6-12 days exposure No attempt was made to correct for degradation of organic matter or to preserve material in traps during collection\n\nAliquots (5 ml) were preserved in 1% Lugol's solution for examination with an inverted microscope.
