Three replicates were obtained per depth level using 0.25 m² quadrats, identifying megabenthic organisms (&lt;2 cm) to the lowest possible taxonomic level. Photographic quadrats of 0.25 m² (50 × 50 cm) were used to document the megabenthic assemblages at depths between 5 and 20 meters. Rocky subtidal habitats in this region act as biodiversity hotspots, supporting a high degree of endemism and playing key ecological and socioeconomic roles. Understanding the vertical and horizontal distribution patterns of benthic communities is essential to assess how abiotic and biotic factors influence their structure. This study aims to characterize subtidal benthic assemblages across five locations in the Strait of Magellan during the austral winter, focusing on whether community variation is primarily driven by depth (vertical scale) or by differences among sites (horizontal scale).</p>","acknowledgements":"<p>This work was made possible thanks to Rewilding Chile Foundation, a Chilean non-profit organization financially supported by a broad philanthropic network.</p>","pubDate":"2025-06-17T00:00:00.000+00:00","maintenanceUpdateFrequency":"NOT_PLANNED","maintenanceDescription":"","license":"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode","dwca":{"coreType":"http://rs.tdwg.org/dwc/terms/Occurrence","extensions":[],"modified":"2026-07-11T05:24:35.763+00:00"},"approximateCounts":{"occurrenceCount":180}}
