Abstract. Species of Monolepta Chevrolat, 1836 currently known from the Sundaland area are taxonomically revised. The region covers the states of Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia including the Wallacea-Subregion (without Irian Jaya on New Guinea). About 2300 specimens, mainly from museal collections, from this area are checked, all relevant literature is considered and the type material is examined. Out of 72 species originally described in Monolepta and occurring in this region, only 13 valid species (including five new synonymies) can remain in Monolepta when phylogenetical aspects are considered: M. bifasciata (Hornstedt, 1788) (Chrysomela bifasciata Hornstedt, 1788; = Cryptocephalus multicolor Gmelin, 1790; = Crioceris quadrinotata Fabricius, 1801; = Luperodes latefascia Motschulsky, 1858; = M. parvonotata Jacoby, 1886, syn. nov.; = M. mustaphai Mohamedsaid, 1997, syn. nov.; = M. entimauensis Mohamedsaid, 1998, syn. nov.); – M. flavofasciata Jacoby, 1889. – M. mentaweiensis (Jacoby, 1896) (= M. basalis Jacoby, 1884; = M. hageni Weise, 1916, syn. nov.). – M. jacobyi Weise, 1908. – M. marginicollis Jacoby, 1896. – M. militaris Jacoby, 1896. – M. orientalis Jacoby, 1889 (= M. konbiriensis Duvivier, 1891). – M. putri Mohamedsaid, 2001. – M. rubra (Gyllenhal, 1808) (= Luperodes javanensis Jacoby, 1887). – M. rufipennis Jacoby, 1899. – M. signata (Olivier, 1808) (Galeruca signata Olivier, 1808; = Crioceris neglecta Sahlberg, 1823: 72; = Luperodes quadripustulatus Motschulsky, 1858; = Luperodes hieroglyphicus Motschulsky, 1858; = M. elegantula Boheman, 1859: 183; = Luperodes dorsalis Motschulsky, 1866: 415; = Luperodes quadriguttata Fairmaire, 1887: 333; = M. picturata Jacoby, 1896; syn. nov.; = M. simplex Weise, 1913). – M. tiomanensis Mohamedsaid, 1999. – M. zonula Weise, 1916. Other species originally described in Monolepta occuring in the region are still or need to be transferred to other genera. Eight species are newly described: M. bruneiensis sp. nov., M. empatbulat sp. nov., M. hitam sp. nov., M. kuninghitam sp. nov., M. marginicolloides sp. nov., M. mohamedsaidi sp. nov., M. ranuensis sp. nov., M. sulawensis sp. nov. An identification key for the 21 species, a check-list of the current taxa of Monolepta from Sundaland, and a list of species originally described in Monolepta occurring in this region that still are or need to be transferred to other genera are provided.
