During each visit to a given transect, all contacts and observations with the target species were recorded on a field form, which included (a) species, (b) number of individuals, (c) perpendicular distance to the road and identification of the side of the road on which the contact was recorded (right or left, in the direction of travel of the vehicle); for flocks, the distance is estimated to the approximate geometric center of the group, (c) sex (whenever sexual dimorphism is compatible with remote observation), (d) age, (e) the probability of breeding, according to a numeric code, aggregated into three possibilities: “no confirmed breeding” (0), “possible breeding” (1-3), probable breeding (4-10) and confirmed breeding (11-16) (Equipa Atlas, 2008) and (f) behavior and (f) habitat.
