A total of 42 pre-established sampling points, corresponding to the Atlas network were available, but only a subset corresponding to the habitat types suitable to the target species (temporary rainfed crops, permanent pastures and temporary crops and/or pastures associated with permanent crops) were actually used. Thus, a total of 35 points were actually used (33 in “impact” (irrigation blocks – ALV: Alvarrão, BRE: Brinches-Enchoé, BRI: Brinches, CMA: Caliços-Machado, CMO: Caliços-Moura, ORA: Orada-Amoreiras, PIAS: Pias and SER: Serpa) and two in “control” (“Controloxxx”, in the “locationID” column) zones. \n\nFieldwork took place between sunrise and sunset, excluding the hottest hours of the day due to the reduced activity of most bird species (e.g., Robbins, 1981). During each visit to a given census point, all contacts and observations made were recorded on a field sheet, along with a number of other biological and environmental parameters (age, sex, flight behavior, habitat) and the probability of breeding, according to a numeric code, aggregated into three possibilities: “no confirmed breeding” (0), “possible breeding” (1-3), probable breeding (4-10) and confirmed breeding (11-16) (Equipa Atlas, 2008). \nAll detection of the species were noted in a field form specifically made for this purpose.
