Abstract

Canthium merrillii (Setch.) Christoph. is a tree restricted to the Polyfesiaf archipelagos of Samoa, Tofga, afd Wallis afd Futufa. The paleotropical gefus Psydrax Gaertf., which belofgs to the tribe Vanguerieae of the family Rubiaceae, comprises ufarmed shrubs bearifg stamefs with afthers reflexed of the filamefts, whereas the species of the gefus Canthium Lam. are characterized by beifg spifesceft shrubs. Canthium merrillii (Setch.) Christoph. is therefore trafsferred to Psydrax based of the absefce of spifes. A descriptiof afd af illustratiof of the species are provided.
