Este recurso presenta el listado de las especies de la familia Mauroniscidae (Coleoptera: Cleroidea) con ocurrencia conocida para el territorio colombiano. Se listan dos géneros y dos especies, de las cuales una especie especies se considera endémica. El listado ha sido compilado a partir de información disponible en la revisión de Mauroniscidae de Majer (1995). Se incluyen las referencias de todas las descripciones originales. No se conocen registros de Mauroniscidae en Colombia después del trabajo de Majer (1995). Las dos especies han sido reportadas para Colombia a partir de material depositado en el Museo de Historia Natural de Londres.

","introduction":"Island ecosystems are characterized by high levels of endemism and a remarkable diversity of unique biological adaptations. However, this biodiversity is increasingly threatened by anthropogenic pressures and the resulting degradation and loss of natural habitats. Due to their restricted geographic ranges and often isolated populations, island species are particularly vulnerable to population declines and extinction. It is therefore essential to document and monitor island biodiversity comprehensively, both to improve our understanding of these ecosystems and to ensure that species and their habitats receive appropriate protection and effective conservation measures.
Sint Maarten is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, occupying the southern portion of the island of Saint Martin in the Lesser Antilles. The rapid expansion of the tourism industry has driven significant urbanisation and associated development, often outpacing efforts to adequately document, monitor and protect the island’s wildlife and natural ecosystems. The non-governmental organization, the Nature Foundation Sint Maarten, was founded in 1997 to improve the conditions through the conservation, management, and restoration of Sint Maarten’s natural ecosystems and wildlife.
The Nature Foundation Sint Maarten has undertaken a range of research and ecosystem management activities aimed at documenting the species present on the island and assessing the condition and ecological health of its ecosystems. These activities have encompassed both terrestrial and marine environments and have documented a diverse range of native and introduced species. This checklist was compiled using species records obtained through these research and monitoring activities. Its primary objective is to provide a comprehensive overview of the species documented in Sint Maarten and to support evidence-based decision-making for biodiversity conservation, ecosystem management and the protection of the island’s natural heritage.

A key element in implementing these Directives is the establishment of the NATURA 2000 network to protect certain species and habitats of EU importance (Articles 3 and 4 of the Habitats Directive and Article 4 of the Birds Directive.\nUnder the Birds Directive, they must designate the core breeding, resting and wintering sites for 190 rare or threatened bird species listed in Annex I of the Directive, as well as for certain other migratory bird species. Under the Habitats Directive, countries must designate sites for over 1000 plant and animal species and 233 habitats. These are listed in Annexes I and II of the Directive respectively.\nThe proposed Project aims to implement steps 3 and 4 and to lay the groundwork for steps 5 and 6.\nThe creation of a dataset for the NATURA 2000 network requires the involvement of hundreds of experts (zoologists and botanists), as well as other stakeholders (local authorities, land users, and state authorities). This work must be carried out for each individual species according to EU methodology. The institutional capacity of state authorities does not enable them to perform this task independently. Therefore, we propose establishing an expert environment to prepare the dataset for the NATURA 2000 network and developing a clear system of interaction and engagement with key stakeholders, primarily state authorities responsible for preparing Ukraine for EU accession in terms of implementing the EU Habitats and Birds Directives' requirements.\nThe implementation of the proposed project will have an impact on the fulfillment of national and international commitments, including the following:\nThe Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union of 16 September 2014, in the section “Nature Protection” (Annex XXX to Chapter 6 “Environment”), provides for the implementation of the provisions of the Habitats and Birds Directives.\nBy Resolution No. 225/3 of 22 January 2025, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management approved the recommendations of the hearings on the topic “Legal framework for the functioning of an effective system of protected areas and sites as a basis for the conservation and restoration of biodiversity: current issues.” These recommendations stipulate the need to ensure the preparation and development of legislative amendments aimed at the full transposition of the provisions of the Habitats and Birds Directives, particularly regarding the establishment of conservation regimes for flora and fauna species listed in the annexes to these directives.\nAccording to paragraph 294 of the Government’s Priority Action Plan for 2025, it is envisaged to ensure the preparation of sectoral positions regarding the adaptation of legislation in areas of responsibility, including the field of environmental protection, as well as other international obligations of Ukraine in this area.\nThe primary stakeholders in the implementation of the Project are the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada (Prliament) of Ukraine on Ukraine’s Integration into the European Union and the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine (letters of support from these institutions are attached to the project proposal), as well as the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Environmental Policy and Nature Management. The implementation of the Project directly contributes to the technical work outlined under Cluster 4 on Ukraine’s EU accession – “Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity”, Chapter 27: Environment and Climate Change. This work, along with its further communication within the Council of Europe and implementation in Ukraine, falls under the mandate of these government bodies, particularly regarding the transposition of EU directives.\nOther stakeholders include specialized scientific institutions, as well as civil society organizations working in the field of biodiversity conservation and protected areas support (it was through the efforts of these stakeholders that the Emerald Network of Ukraine was developed in the past).\nIndirectly, all citizens of Ukraine are also stakeholders, as achieving the Project’s objectives will contribute to advancing Ukraine’s progress toward European integration."},"samplingDescription":{"studyExtent":"The vast majority of the material was collected during bird surveys along the shoreline of various reservoirs of both natural and anthropogenic origin. The coordinates of each occurrence were recorded, but not in all cases. In those cases missing the coordinates, the location was estimated based on the description, provided for each single record.
